Duo Savigni
Giuliani Moschelles Mertz

The album

This CD was born from a passion for the music of the early nineteenth century and from the study of the repertoire for the instruments of that period. The scene is nineteenth century Vienna: in drawing rooms, the fortepiano and guitar reign as the favored instruments to entertain, enjoy, evoke and disseminate the popular music of the era by way of transcription, variation, divertimento and fantasy. With the intimacy characterized by Hausmusik, the repertoire for the guitar-fortepiano duo was developed with compositions suitable for both amateurs and the great virtuosos of the day – both of which are contained in this CD. The music of Mauro Giuliani and Johann Kaspar Mertz constitutes the core of this repertoire. The former collaborated with two of the most acclaimed pianists of the early nineteenth century: Ignaz Moscheles and Johann Nepomuk Hummel; the latter  explored and expanded the sounds and possibilities for this type of duo, thanks in part to his collaborations with his wife, a pianist. For further information regarding the pieces, composers, and the instruments used in this recording please visit: www.duosavigi.it

Duo Savigni
The artist

The SAVIGNI DUO was born in 2009 after a fortuitous occasion during which Laura and Enrica encountered period instruments for the first time.
Both specialized in chamber music at the Accademia Internazionale di Duino (Trieste) under the guidance of the Trio di Parma, while at the same time completing their studies at the conservatory (Enrica graduated from the Conservatory “A. Boito” di Parma in guitar and clarinet; Laura from the Istituto Pareggiato “G. Puccini” di Gallarate in piano). Soon afterward their paths became more specialized: Enrica studied and graduated in eighteenth century guitar in 2013 at the Civica Scuola di Milano “Claudio Abbado” with the Maccari-Pugliese duo; Laura earned her Master’s degree in fortepiano at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart in 2016, under the guidance of Stefania Neonato. Currently the Savigni Duo has several concerts lined up and, in addition to performing, they dedicate their time to
teaching.
